Leadership body:
- Size and structure: The TT is considering the formation of a 5 person leadership team that both ensures the appropriate mix of leadership skills and is representative of the demographics (social, educational, racial, gender, etc) of Church in the Cliff and the community that we are engaging. The leadership team would commit to two year terms and be responsible for all church administration.
- Committees: To assist the leadership team, additional standing and ad-hoc committees would be formed to deal with specific administrative issues. Three committees would be formed immediately: Worship (meeting weekly), Finance (meeting monthly and as needed to address specific administrative issues), and Community (focused on both building the CitC community and how CitC interacts with the Dallas/Oak Cliff community and beyond). An additional ad-hoc committee would be formed twice a year to conduct strategic planning. Each committee would be chaired by a member of the leadership team and be filled by other members of the community.
- Nomination: To identify members for the leadership team, the TT would like to submit a request for nominations to the community. An independent nomination committee would be formed to review and select members for the leadership team. The nomination committee could include community members and TT members who have chosen not to be considered for the leadership team.
Questions on the role of the community
- Decision making: As the new leadership body is formed, it will be critical to determine how decisions are made and/or confirmed. Should the community vote on all decisions (the current structure under the TT) or should the community provide feedback to the leadership team who ultimately makes decisions. Community discussions of issues could occur during community meetings or through a blog.
Questions on the role of the pastor:
- As the leadership body is formed, should the pastor engage in decision making around church administration or solely focus on pastoral care and rely on the leadership team to make administrative decisions independently?
First steps for the new leadership body:
A number of concerns have been raised during TT conversations that are outside the scope of forming a budget, identifying a pastor, and developing a leadership team. These concerns will be added to a “first six month agenda” for the leadership team and currently include:
- Formation of CitC vision, values, & by-laws
- Consider on-going denominational affiliation, relationship to Cathedral of Hope, and potentially establishing an independent organization for CitC.
